At the beginning of 1880s an important building speculation is attempted in Milan on the areas behind the Castello Sforzesco: a large district intended to be united to the centre by a straight avenue joining the Arco della Pace to the Duomo thus partially demolishing the Castello. The project is much supported as well as hard-fought above all because it hinders an organic future development of the city without a regular town-planning scheme.
